Happy Independance!
July was renamed for Julius Caesar, who was born in that month.
July is the seventh month of the year in the Gregorian Calendar and one of seven Gregorian months with the length of 31 days. It is, on average, the warmest month in most of the Northern hemisphere (where it is the second month of summer) and the coldest month in much of the Southern hemisphere. The second half of the year commences in July. The birthstone for July is a red ruby.
The Major League Baseball All-Star Game is played in the middle of July on a Tuesday. The days surrounded the All-Star Game, Monday and Wednesday are the only days in a calendar year where there are no Major Sport games being played.
- The Hollywood Riviera is part of the City of Torrance, but unlike many other Torrance communities, "The Riviera" (as some residents call it) has a distinct feel that sets it apart from neighboring communities.
The original developer of the Hollywood Riviera was entranced by the movie business and felt that the seaside properties would be a natural location for the Hollywood “set” to buy and build. A few movies were made in the thirties and few smart producers bought properties, but the Hollywood scene never materialized. What did materialize are delightful cluster of shops, restaurants, café bistros and galleries know as the "Riviera Village".

El Retiro Library remodel
This is long overdue... The El Retiro Library is closed for about three months for a remodel. It will include installation of seismically safe shelving and upgraded electrical systems. New carpet and front desk are also in the plans. They should also replace the cheap roof the city installed about 5 years ago. It looks terrible and doesn't match the other roofs in the park. It is a disgrace.
